Tangent: rap radio that sounded the same

I had a theory this summer that every time the time I turned to rap radio, it would be playing Chris Brown’s “Loyal,” and I was right about half the time. But then they started to play other things that sounded a lot like “Loyal,” and at first I was really confused. I am aware of that silly argument that all pop music sounds the same (just because it comes from the same formula, it doesn’t mean that two songs are alike), but I got a sick feeling that record executives were messing with us this year with what they pumped into rap radio. Don’t believe me?

Exhibit A: TeeFLii and 2Chainz with their interpretation of “Loyal.”

Exhibit B: Ty Dolla $ign and B.O.B. with their interpretation of “Loyal.”

Exhibit C: Jeremih and YG with their interpretation of “Loyal.”

Exhibit D: Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg and Ty Dolla $ign with their interpretation of “Loyal.”

Exhibits E, F, and G: Kid Ink being an unoriginal loser with his many interpretations of “Loyal.”

One artist who didn’t just try to copy “Loyal?” Believe it or not, Chris Brown. “New Flame” is pretty good.
