“Ways to Go”- Summer’s First Great Song

Summer generally has room for only one song to dominate the charts and receive airplay twenty years later. Last year, I would argue “Call Me Maybe” was the song of the summer. The year before that, both “Levels” and “Helena Beat” shared the honor, depending on which way you leaned on the spectrum. While it’s too early to make a declaration just yet on this summer’s designated jam (and considering how awful I am on predicting a single’s success), I would like to offer up Grouplove’s newest single as my nomination.

Los Angeles pedigree? Check. Fun call and response between male and female a la Len? Doubly-check. Clear Channel ubiquity? We’ll see. It’s starting to get some airplay on Los Angeles alternative rock stations, and I’m crossing my fingers for top-40 roatations. “Ways to Go” deserves beach party treatment, and hopefully as we shed more layers the single will find a home near our naked eardrums.
